Like Craigslist grew when it launched in 995, the site is growing thanks to word of mouth. Like CL, lxl is simple. While the sexual language may be familiar, the endless ads for happy-ending massages and Generou$ are gone. The site also encourages users to report suspicious ads, and it tries to weed out those trying to covertly sell sex quickly. Despite the site’s strict monitoring, administrators face challenges. “Due to the recent closure of some sites, the site is experiencing an influx of illegal posters,” a notice on the homepage reads. “As these posters try to find new places to post, we are working around the clock to remove and block them permanently.” WEHO TIMES reached out to lxl to learn more about its platform. We were asked to submit a list of questions answered promptly by anonymous sources in the lxl Media Team.
What was the inspiration for Localxlist?
Localxlist was created as a small site. It was meant to be a temporary solution to fill the gap left by other sites. We wanted to create a safe place where people could continue to post, have fun, and connect. The community inspired us.
What are the names of the founders responsible for launching this site?
They are the most hardworking, community-minded, and responsible people. The Team works 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, unpaid. Many passionate people donate their free time to improve the site, providing guidance and expertise.
When did it start? It was launched in November 1209.
What is your mission in providing this service?
The mission is to provide a safe place where people can socialize and express their sexuality without being judged based on their appearance or sexual orientation. We want to provide an environment that fosters open communication and promotes tolerance.
Craigslist Personal doesn’t want to risk criminal and civil liability if a third party misuses your online personal information. How does Localxlist deal with this threat?
We understand that. You can’t blame other sites for not wanting to deal with this. From what our extensive legal Team has revealed, it depends on intent and not ignoring illegal activity. Ultimately, users can try to misuse any website. We have made it abundantly clear that we never tolerate unlawful activity on our website. We actively remove and block users who attempt to abuse our services or perform illegal activities on our website. We promptly review uploaded content and remove it from users who violate our rules. Abuse has already decreased significantly as most people know that we will not sit idly by and watch our services be abused.
How do we monitor the abuse of your website?
We use various techniques, including manual human review and machine-learning content analysis. Both proactive and reactive. We also empower our community to flag and report abuse, in which case we remove the offensive content and investigate the user who posted it. We also ensure that user feedback is placed at the highest level possible. We investigate all abuse complaints received and respond promptly. We tend to have safeguards in place. Unfortunately, good-intentioned users can get caught in the filter. Inferring user intent from a 50-word ad can be tricky. But we can do it well enough. What’s most exciting about this is that other companies offer help. We’re bringing on board a best-in-class AI company specializing in content analysis. How has your growth been since you started?
The growth has been rapid and overwhelming. Since we don’t advertise, it’s mostly been word of mouth. It’s because we were able to guarantee a good experience.

I don’t know how many people know, but we have about 200,000 visitors daily.
What kind of feedback are you receiving about the new site?
The delight, relief, happiness, and inevitable frustration of our users. What makes us happy are the thank you emails we get from you all. Many people write to say “thank you”. Others write because they want to help. Many offer to donate to the cause. Receiving such emails can make your long hours go by. You may also receive emails from disgruntled users. The frustration usually stems from the rejection of their ads. Most of the time, this happens accidentally, but sometimes it happens intentionally. It is never personal. But some users think so.
Have you encountered any unexpected challenges?
Server failures, disgruntled users, spammers, sleepless nights. But nothing we can’t handle.
Are there any elements of the website launch that please or pleasantly surprise you?
The feedback and satisfaction from our users have been gratifying. Most users are shocked when we respond, not to mention that we resolve their complaints within minutes. Seeing the community increase has also been an enjoyable experience and shows that we are on the right path.
What do you think is the future of localxlist.org?
Website redesign and improvements will be done shortly. We want to give it a striking look while still maintaining its functionality. New categories. New cities. We improved the content review process. There may be some slight changes to the model itself. We are also working to learn more about our users’ needs. For example, a man seeking a man is very different from a annapolis woman seeking man. We want to tailor the experience to each user. Ultimately, we listen to the needs of our community.
